Moriarty, age 65, beloved husband of Mary Lu Bray, father of Marie (Scott) Cameron of Angola, and grandfather of Teague Scott and Shea Marie, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 peacefully at his home in Lacona. Born on July 25, 1953 in Olean, son of Jeremiah and Helen Marie Rott Moriarty, he graduated from Franklinville’s Ten Broeck Academy in 1971 and earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia. After serving in the United States Air Force from 1973 until 1975, Dan earned his master’s degree in literature at Syracuse University. For 28 years he was a devoted teacher of English at Pulaski High School, where he left a deep and lasting impression on many of his students. He and Mary Lu married on August 7, 1987. After retiring in 2008, he pursued his passion for reading and writing by earning a Masters of Fine Arts degree at the creative writing program of Syracuse University and by teaching there and as an adjunct professor at Cayuga Community College and Keuka College. He was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Pulaski. Also surviving are one brother, Jeremiah Moriarty of Allegheny, NY, one sister, Mary Ellen Moriarty of Buffalo, a large family of in-laws, and his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly. Daniel was pre-deceased by a sister, Karen Moriarty, a brother, Thomas Moriarty, and a nephew Timothy Stout. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 25th at Christ Our Light church, 23 Niagara Street in Pulaski. Calling hours will be held today, February 24th, from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street in Pulaski. Donations may be made to NOCA, 21 Delano Street, Pulaski, NY 13142 or Hope for Ariang, http://david-morse.com/hopeforariang/, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating women in Sudan, which Dan supported for many years.

Dillenbeck, 10, and Riely M. Pottenburgh, 6, both of 255 Ellisburg St., will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Pulaski Wesleyan Church.The two boys died Sunday in a house fire on County Route 48 in Richland. Their mother, Robin Dillenbeck, and two half brothers, Dayton and Dontae Lance, also were killed in the fire.Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park St., Pulaski.Joseph was born May 9, 1998, in Amsterdam, and was a fifth-grade pupil at Sandy Creek Elementary School. He was a member of Sandy Creek Little League and the Teachers Association Team. He also was a member of Pulaski Pop Warner Football League and took karate lessons in Cicero.Riely was born June 25, 2002, in Watertown, and was a first-grader at Sandy Creek Elementary. He was a member of Sandy Creek Little League T-ball, Sandy Creek Comets Soccer Club and the wrestling team. He also was a member of the Salmon River hockey program.Surviving besides their father, Joseph A. Pottenburgh, Sandy Creek, are their paternal grandmother, Sandra Pottenburgh, Claverack; their maternal grandfather, Timothy Dillenbeck, Fort Plain; their maternal grandmother, Audrey Spink, Ocala, Fla.; a paternal great-grandmother, Ismini Frieser, North Carolina, and several aunts and uncles.Donations may be made to the Children's Victim Fund of Richland Fire, in care of Alliance Bank, 4879 N.
